True Wisdom

Job 28

In Job 28:12, Jobs asks a very important question. He asks, “But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?” He then asks this question a second time in verse 20. Why is this so important?

Our world teaches that wisdom comes in different shapes and forms. Man searches for wisdom all over this earth, above and below. Science studies the details and math computes the numbers; however, they continue to search and find new things which continue to change the numbers. The wisdom and knowledge they search for is not the wisdom the Bible teaches.

Job 28:21 tells us that wisdom “is hidden from the eyes of all living and concealed from the birds of the air”. We are not meant to understand what God understands. He sees the whole picture. He created everything and knows the inner workings of every detail here on earth. Verses 23-24 tells us, “God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.”

‭‭So if wisdom is naturally hidden from us, then how do we gain it? True wisdom is found another way. Verse 28 tells us the secret, “And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”

David explains what it means to fear the Lord in Psalm 34:11-18. He says, “Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Seeking God with your whole heart and turning away from evil brings true wisdom and understanding. The Lord will reveal himself to you as you seek Him. The more you seek, the more He reveals to you His ways. We cannot understand this life on earth or the beautiful reality of eternal life with Him if we do not have His wisdom. The more we gain then the more we learn that true wisdom here on earth has always been centered around the one who created it all.
